Square Enix is way larger than this youtube reviewer. If they were paying him, wouldn’t the video he did reviewing the game look more professional? It’s just a guy having fun with video equipment (see his vids about the setups he uses… it’s very interesting…)
I just don’t think this guy’s review is going to tank or pump the sales of Nier…

I actually like the idea of an ugly protagonist. The Nameless One from Planescape: Torment is a good example of one done well.

and yep its rockstar polished but its gta in the wild west wich is cool if you haven’t played a gta before
but if you have played a gta before you’ll either love it or hate it

@Golarian You played the game? To me, it was nearly Lost-like in its mysteries (not in the number of them, but in how you can interpret the ‘answers’).
I have a hell of a lot of RPGs/JRPGs of all sorts on my shelf, and I have to say that while the journey of Nier is fairly straightforward (save for a couple huge shakeups), the ideas/symbolism behind it is neither ‘amusing but simple’(Persona 3/4) nor childish (Final Fantasy). It’s remarkably mature at the end as well.

*SPOILERS*
Modern city is 2040ish. Game world is over 1000 years after. The Father you play as is NOT exactly the same as the one from 2040. In a way though, he is a sort of reincarnation/a clone. In fact, all ‘humans’ on the world are these ‘clones’(gestalt). The humans from our time are now the ‘Shades’ that you fight, sadly. Including the father and daughter.
To explain why all of this is, I’d just recommend renting the game at least.

To anyone who beat the game: the revelation at the end was pretty epic. It explained the weird beginning so well… Whoever wrote the plot deserves an award for originality.

This looks fantastic, It’s great to see Square Enix are trying something new.
l honestly think they should stop making Final Fantasy games, the series hasnt been good ever since squaresoft changed to Square Enix and thats because most of the orignal team left and Amano’s unique style is not in the games anymore.
Wow, kinda rare something from Square Enix with out zippers or silly horrible fashion for once.
FYI the futanari thing is only obliquely referred to in the actual game.

The “old” version of Nier was actually the original character design. The younger version was created afterward because the old version didn’t go over well with japanese playtesters.
So the old version is actually the character as originally envisioned by the developers.
@Naxwell I like the idea of a protagonist that doesnt look like a hot 16 year old girl. lets face it van from ff12 looked more fem than 99% of chicks in real life.
